Mentor breakfast

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse Bay Poverty Reduction Initiative invites all area nonprofit mentoring organizations to its free mentoring breakfast on Wednesday, May 1.

The breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Faith Reformed Church, 1139 E. Front St. This year the focus is on information and education for nonprofits that offer mentoring services. Breakout sessions will focus on marketing, funding, mentoring best practices and social media.

Day of Prayer

MANCELONA — The Mancelona Ministerial Association invites the community to join them in prayer on National Day of Prayer, Thursday, May 2.

Participants will gather at 1 p.m. at Triangle Square, the corner of U.S. 131 and M-88. A prayer walk around the town’s “triangle” is encouraged. For details, call Pastor Todd Shafer, 587-8461.

Clogging class

EAST JORDAN — Martha Wagbo Farm and Education Center will offer a series of clogging classes.

Classes meet six Thursdays, May 2 through June 6, at the center, 5745 N. M-66. Beginning traditional classes will meet 5-5:30 p.m. for ages 5 to 7 and 5:30-6 p.m. for ages 8 to 10. Beginning contemporary clogging for ages 11 to 15 meets 6-7 p.m. and beginning traditional/contemporary for adults 16 and older will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. Intermediate and advanced classes will be added as needed.

The cost is $3 per session or $15 for six weeks for 30-minute classes; $5 per session or $25 for six weeks for 60-minute classes. For details, contact instructor Jeannine Sladick, 536-9766 or simon_says_dance@yahoo.com.

Behavior workshop

TRAVERSE CITY — Northwestern Michigan College’s Extended Education will offer a professional and personal development workshop titled “Eliminating Self-Defeating Behaviors.”

Gregory Boothroyd will lead the workshop from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, May 3, at the University Center on Dendrinos Drive off Cass Road. Boothroyd is the author of “Going Home-A Positive Guide for Promoting Life-Generating Behaviors” and is professor emeritus of Western Michigan University.
