School craft show

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse Heights Elementary School, 933 Rose St., will host a craft show from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, to benefit the TCTA (bus driver) Scholarship Fund, which gives one scholarship to each TCAPS high school. Lunch also will be available.

Comedy improv

TRAVERSE CITY — The "Good on Paper" improv comedy troupe will again take the stage in the Mary Schmuckal Downstairs Theatre at the Old Town Playhouse for improvised comedy.

The troupe performs at 11 p.m. every other Saturday from October through May at the OTP, 148 E. Eighth St. The next performance is Saturday, Oct. 12. General admission tickets are $5 at the door before the show, or by calling 947-2210. The doors open at 10:30 p.m.

Country dance

CADILLAC — Free dance instruction and music by the Fonda Starr Band highlight an old-time country dance on Saturday, Oct. 12.

The dance will be hosted from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at 9116 E. 13th St., next to Kiley Chiropractic. Donations will be accepted and listeners are welcome. Call 920-8389 to learn more.

Jazz house concert

ACME — The Northwest MI Jazz Experience will present its second open house concert of the season on Sunday, Oct. 13.

The concert from 3-5:30 p.m. will take place at the home of NMJE member Kristin and Jim Steckley, 7201 Deepwater Point Road. Admission is $5 for members; $15 for non-members. Memberships will be available at the door. For details, call 938-1755 or visit

Marching Expo

TRAVERSE CITY — High school marching bands will take the field on Monday, Oct. 14, for the Thirlby Marching Expo hosted by the Central High School Band.

The music event will be held from 5 to 9:30 p.m. at Thirlby Field, 400 W. 13th St. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students and $10 for families at the gate. For details, call 933-7570.

Torch area potluck

EASTPORT — The Upper Torch Lake Association will hold a potluck dinner on Monday, Oct. 14.
