Prep Football Week 4 Previews

Lapeer East at TC Central

Records: TC Central (1-2), Lapeer East (2-1)

When: Today, 7 p.m.

Radio: AM-580

Background

Both teams are coming off a tight loss to their crosstown rival: TC Central 14-17 to TC West and Lapeer East 13-19 to Lapeer West. East doesn't have a JV team — only freshman and varsity — and have just six seniors out of 41 varsity players.

The Trojans’ two losses are to teams with a combined 5-1 record, while both of the Eagles’ wins are against teams that are 0-3.

Harbor Springs at Boyne City

Records: Harbor Springs (2-1), Boyne City (2-1)

When: Today, 7 p.m.

Background

Harbor Springs is coming off its first loss of the season, a 20-6 setback to surprising and undefeated East Jordan. Boyne City has posted back-to-back dominating performances, and are hoping to keep that going into next week’s home matchup with TC St. Francis. With both being 2-1, the winner of the game will take another step toward being a serious contender in the Northwest Conference.

East Jordan at Kalkaska

Records: East Jordan (3-0), Kalkaska (2-1)

When: Today, 7 p.m.

Background

Coming off their first setback of the year (a 22-6 loss to Boyne City), Kalkaska is hoping to get back on the winning track. The Blazers have beaten East Jordan each of the last four years. The Red Devils, meanwhile, are 3-0 for the first time since 2003, which is also the last time they made the playoffs. Each of the last three times East Jordan has made the playoffs, it beat Kalkaska that season.

Mancelona (1-2) at Central Lake

Records: Mancelona (1-2), Central Lake (2-1)

When: Today, 7 p.m.

Background

The two teams are playing for the M-88 Trophy, which Mancelona has won each of the past three seasons. The Ironmen have struggled after last year’s 10-1 season, but were victorious 28-6 last week over Joburg to get in the win column. Central Lake has won two in a row, including last week’s barn-burner 42-41 win over Gaylord St. Mary. The Trojans are giving up 27 points a game this year to Mancelona’s 22. Central Lake last beat the Ironmen in 2009.
