Man accused of domestic violence as police watched

---- — TRAVERSE CITY — A man who Traverse City police observed “violently shaking” his girlfriend faces up to five years in prison for third-offense domestic violence.

Police allege they witnessed Travis Wade Thompson, 41, of Traverse City, argue with a woman he’d dated for about a year. Thompson shook the woman and she took out a cellphone and Thompson grabbed it away from her, police said. They immediately arrested Thompson after they observed the altercation on Cass Street on Sept. 14.

Thompson was charged with interfering with electronic communications, a two-year felony, and domestic violence, third offense, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison. Thompson had prior convictions for domestic violence in 2009 and 2011.
