---- — Board not a ‘rubber stamp’

As a retired employee of Benzie Transit Authority I was part of its formative years, experiencing the highs and the lows along with my very dedicated co-workers. I regret the upheaval they are currently experiencing with the board’s decision to not renew the contract of the (former) executive director, Susan Gray Miller, but I totally support that decision.

There are two sides to every story. Many of Sue’s personal friends and family members who work there will disagree with me, but I can tell you as someone who has never been in either of those categories that it can create a very difficult work environment. I would not have retired when I did had the board taken this action a couple years ago.

I will not discount Sue’s accomplishments but I applaud the board’s willingness to make a tough decision and address the underlying dysfunction caused by nepotism and favoritism. It was very destructive to morale.

The Benzie Bus Board did not take the easy way out, they are not a “rubber stamp” board and there are current employees and former employees who commend them for taking a stand. I am one of them.
