TRAVERSE CITY — The Northwest MI Jazz Experience (NMJE) will host its first house concert of the 2013-14 season Sunday at the home of NMJE member, Carol Bouskay, 9743 Bluff Trail, Williamsburg.

The 3-5:30 p.m. concert features pianist Jeff Haas, Lansing bassist Ed Fedewa, drummer John Driscoll and Grand Rapids trumpeter Chris Lawrence. Admission is $5 for NMJE members; $15 for non-members. Memberships will be available at the door. For directions or details, visit

Memorial show

TRAVERSE CITY — Northwestern Michigan College’s Automotive Technology Program will host the eighth annual Mike McIntosh Memorial Classic Car and 4x4 Show on Saturday. The show is named for the late NMC automotive instructor Mike McIntosh, who retired in 2004 after 34 years of service. McIntosh organized the first car show in 2004.

Owners may enter their vehicles starting at 8 a.m. There is a $10 entry fee per vehicle and owners may register on-site. Trophies will be awarded. Proceeds benefit NMC’s Automotive Program.

Show hours are 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at NMC’s Automotive Service Technology Building on Aero Park Drive. Admission is free. There also will be a silent auction and food will be available to purchase. The Automotive Technology facilities will be open and student projects and vehicles will be on view.

Taste of Benzie

FRANKFORT — Beer and wine tasting will be available for the first time at the seventh annual Taste of Benzie event.

The event will be held from 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday at Mineral Springs Park. Benzie County restaurants, caterers and cafes will be selling samples of their specialties for $1 to $3 per sample, and a variety of wine and beer samples will be available. There also will be an inflatable bounce house, face-painting, kids’ crafts, live music and sidewalk chalk art supplies. For details, call 352-7251.

Author launches book

TRAVERSE CITY — Don Lystra, author of “Season of Water and Ice,” will launch his latest collection of short stories titled “Something That Feels Like Truth” on Saturday at Brilliant Books, 118 E. Front St.

Lystra will be the National Writers’ Series Author Next Door in November and is slated for a profile interview on IPR later this year. He will be at the book store from 7-9 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 946-2665.
