Euchre fundraiser

Elk Rapids — A euchre tournament fundraiser will be sponsored Saturday, Jan. 19, to benefit Project Graduation, the all-night party for the Elk Rapids High School senior class.

The tournament will start at 7 p.m. at the AMVETS Post. The doors open at 6 p.m. Players must be 21 to participate and the entry fee is $15 per person at the door. Hors d'oeuvres will be provided and a cash bar will be available.

Robert Burns Night

Traverse City — The St. Andrews Society of NW Michigan will celebrate Scotland's national poet on Sunday, Jan. 20.

Robert Burns Night will begin at 5 p.m. at Sleder's Tavern, 717 Randolph St., with bagpipes, Highland dances, haggis, live music, a raffle and door prizes.

Burlesque show

Traverse city — The Bayside Bombshells Burlesque Troupe will present "Burlypocalypse" at 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at InsideOut Gallery, 229 Garland St. The doors open at 8 p.m. and admission is $10.

Art sought

Traverse City — Entries are being sought for a juried exhibit titled "About Face: Pardon the Expressions."

The all-media exhibit showcasing artist interpretations of faces, facial features and expressions will open Tuesday, Jan. 29, at the Mercato. An artist reception will be hosted Friday, Feb. 1, during the Village's First Friday event.

The entry fee is $15 for adults; $10 for students. The entry deadline is Tuesday, Jan. 22. For details and entry forms, visit www.thevillagetc.com.

Winter camera class

Thompsonville — Photographer Chris Bickes will lead a workshop titled "Camera, Sculpture and Snowshoes" Saturday, Feb. 2, at Michigan Legacy Art Park. The registration deadline is Wednesday, Jan. 30.

The workshop meets 9 a.m.-noon at the art park on the grounds of Crystal Mountain Resort. The emphasis will be on winter photo composition in black and white including lighting and contrast techniques. It is designed for beginning and intermediate photographers.

Outdoor fundraiser

Maple City — The Leelanau Outdoor Center will host a "Snowshoe Stampede" to raise money for its tuition assistance program.

The 5K race and a one-mile "Snowflake Race" for children 12 and younger start at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Leelanau Outdoor Center, 1653 Port Oneida Road. Registration is $15 in advance; $20 on race day. Snowshoe rentals are $12 for adults and $8 for children.

Snowshoe race

Bellaire — Grass River Natural Area, 6500 Alden Highway, will host the Grass River Shiver Snowshoe Race and Winterfest Family Fun Day Saturday, Jan. 26.

Race registration starts at 9 a.m. Races begin at 10 a.m. Registration is $15 in advance; $20 the day of the event. Children 12 and younger are free. Racers may register at www.grassriver.org, www.active.com, www.runmichigan.com, or by calling 533-8314. If there is no snow, racers should bring running shoes for a trail race.

Winterfest Family Fun Day follows the race. Free family activities from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. include games, crafts and winter tracking. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., local chefs will offer samples of chowder for tasters to judge in the Chowder Challenge.

Furniture & Fiber

Frankfort — The second annual Furniture & Fiber exhibit opened Jan. 11 at the Elizabeth Lane Oliver Center for the Arts, 132 Coast Guard Road.

More than 25 area artists have created high quality fiber pieces and one-of-a-kind furniture for the show and sale, which continues through March 3. Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon-4 p.m. Saturday.
