Cheryl Lynn Kissel

MANISTEE — Cheryl Lynn Kissel, age 53, of Manistee, died unexpectedly Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at West Shore Medical Center in Manistee. She was born on June 9, 1959, in Traverse City, daughter of Lenore E. (Lindstrom) Wood and the late Stanley I. Wood Jr.

She was a graduate of Suttons Bay High School with the class of 1977.

Cheryl married Brian D. Kissel on Nov. 24, 1990, in Traverse City. After their marriage they lived in Grand Rapids until 1997 when they moved to Manistee, and in 1999 they opened and operated The Blue Slipper Bistro in Onekama.

Cheryl enjoyed crafts, antiquing, garage sales and knitting.

She is survived by her husband, Brian Kissel, of Manistee; three daughters and one son-in-law, Samantha and David Ashpaugh, of Norman, Okla., Candace Kissel and Abigail Kissel, both of Manistee; one son, Michael Docksey, of Ogden, Utah; one grandson, Curtis Ashpaugh, of Norman, Okla.; her mother, Lenore E. Wood, of Traverse City; two sisters, Joanne Wood, of Traverse City, and Denise Wood, of Denver, Colo.; her mother-in-law, Gladys Kissel, of Manistee; and one sister-in-law, Jennifer Teal, of the U.S. Coast Guard, stationed in Puerto Rico. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive her.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her father, Stanley Wood Jr.; and one brother, Michael Wood.

According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service took place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee, with the Reverend John McCracken officiating.

The Herbert Funeral Home of Manistee is in charge of funeral arrangements.
