DETROIT — A 10-0 run by Romulus led to McBain playing catch-up the rest of the way in a 44-33 loss Thursday as part of the Motor City Classic.
The Ramblers jumped out to a 9-2 lead before Romulus' 10-0 counter attack.
McBain cut the lead to seven with 5:25 left, but Romulus hit its free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Meredith Hamlet led the Ramblers with 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Maddie Barnett had nine points. McBain (2-3) hosts Lake City on Jan. 3.
The Eagles were led by Western Michigan University commit Jasmine Parker's 24 points.
TCSF 6th, West 8th at Grandville
Traverse City St. Francis placed sixth and TC West eighth in the 12-team Grandville Invitational.
Matt Mawby won all four of his 135-pound matches by pin for the Gladiators, who defeated Zeeland East (42-28) and Comstock Park (37-36), despite forfeiting five weight classes.
The Glads loss their other two matches to Grand Rapids Northview (25-51) and Tri-County (28-48) by less than the 30 points they gave up by forfeit.
Sam Surgalski was also 4-0 for the day at 140 pounds, while Trica Martin (103), Eric Wales (119), Zach Schaub (125), Ben Jamieson (145) and Nick Kestor (171) were each 3-1.
TC West defeated Gull Lake 48-30 to avenge a loss earlier this season, and fell to Grandville, Tri-County and Comstock Park.
Chad Pipkins posted a 4-0 mark for the Titans at heavyweight, while Vincent Priante (103) and Caleb Kase (14) each were 3-1 and Brad Squires (112), Jonas Jasman (119) and James Peck (215) won two matches each.
The Titans host the Grand Traverse County Christmas Classic on Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m., and St. Francis will be among the many area teams participating.
