Switchback benefit

The Historic Elk Rapids Town Hall Association hosts a concert with Switchback tonight, starting with a cocktail hour with Short's beer and local wines at 7 p.m. and the concert at 8. Several local musicians will be joining the band, including Jessica Hoover, Marianne Rivers, Joe Yuchasz, Dylan Sundberg, Joe Janisse and Jerry DeGrazia. Spirituality Expressed

The Elizabeth Lane Oliver Center for the Arts is hosting "Spirituality Expressed," a themed exhibition through Jan. 6 in the Borwell Gallery. More than 40 area artists have pieces displayed in a variety of media including oil, photography, ceramics, wood, fiber and watercolor. "Shared Treasures," an exhibit of artwork by famous artists in the Beck gallery, also continues through Jan. 6 with individual works by Alice Baber, Dale Chihuly, John Glick, Gwen Frostic, Dominick Labino, Maria Martinez, Elijah Pierce, Pablo Picasso, Christopher Ries, Auguste Renoir, Aminah Robinson and James Whistler. Festival of Trains

The 10th Annual Festival of Trains presented by the Northern Michigan Railroad Club is continuing at the History Center of Traverse City. In addition to train displays, the Choo Choo Café will be offering beverages, baked goods and homemade soups during most of the show. The show runs through New year's Day, with hours from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. New Year's Eve and noon to 4 p.m. New Year's Day. Release party tonight

Local Musician Ben Swan is releasing his latest album at Inside Out Gallery tonight. He will be joined by opening acts Ratone and Audio Monarch, along with his brother, Dan, who helped collaborate on the album. Tickets at the door are $5 or two for $9.

Noisy fun

The East Bay Branch of Traverse Area District Library will host a holiday noisemaker-making party today from noon to 4 p.m. This event is free for all ages. Call the library at 922-2085 or visit www.tadl.org/eastbay

Good Work Collective
