Texas band coming

Traverse City — Tickets go on sale today, Oct. 12, for a concert by nine-time Grammy winning Texas swing band Asleep at the Wheel.

The band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at the City Opera House, 106 E. Front St. Reserved seating tickets are $30 each.

Meet CG heroes

Traverse City — The community can meet local active duty and retired Coast Guardsmen and their families and thank them for protecting northern Michigan's shoreline from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Fox Grand Traverse, 3464 N. U.S. 31 South. Opa Coney & Grill and Great Lakes Potato Chips will provide hot dogs and chips. For details, call 499-5337.

Onekama festival

Onekama — The Onekama Fall Festival will be held Saturday, Oct. 13.

Activities will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Onekama Village Park. In case of bad weather, the festival will move to Onekama School. For details, call 889-5680.

Call for art entries

Traverse City — Individuals recovering from anything are invited to submit art through Friday, Oct. 19, for the sixth annual "Art of Recovery: The Human Journey" show.

The show will open with a reception from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at InsideOut Gallery, 229 Garland St. Artwork will be on display through November.

Art in good condition, matted or framed and suitably wired for display may be delivered during normal business hours to Northern Lakes Community Mental Health, 105 Hall St., second floor. Individuals may submit up to three entries. Entry forms are available under "Special Initiatives" at http://www.northernlakescmh.org. For details, call 935-3099 or email info@northernlakescmh.org.

Candidate forum

Traverse City — The League of Women Voters will hold a public forum for 1st U.S. Congressional District candidates.

Congressman Dan Benishek and candidate Gary McDowell will participate in the forum from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the Traverse Area District Library, 610 Woodmere Ave. The community is invited.
