'Honk! Jr.' tells 'Ugly Duckling' story

Young Company production opens Dec. 12

TRAVERSE CITY — The Old Town Playhouse Young Company will present "Honk! Jr." Dec. 12-16.

A musical based on Hans Christian Andersen's "The Ugly Duckling," "Honk! Jr." is being directed by Broadway veteran Minda Nyquist.

"Honk! Jr." tells the story of Ugly, whose odd, gawky appearance incites prejudice from his family and neighbors. Separated from everyone else on the farm and pursued by a hungry cat, Ugly must find his way home.

Along his rollicking and harrowing journey, Ugly discovers his true beauty and destiny, finding love and acceptance.

Starring Robbie Shields and Grace Zucco, the production is performed by a cast of 40 student actors from the OTP Young Company. Amy Ruopp is handling scenic design, with costumes by Pinkie Hoffman and musical direction by Matt Archibald.

Showtimes are at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, Dec. 12-15, with 2 p.m. matinees on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 15 and 16. Ticket price is $11 for adults and $6 for children under 12. Call 947-2210 for reservations or visit
