---- — ACME — Elevated levels of E. coli were found in water at Acme Bayside Park, health officials said.
The Wednesday findings prompted the Grand Traverse County Health Department to advise that swimming in the water above the waist is not advised. Wading, fishing and boating is acceptable.
The E. coli count was measured at 456 per 100 milliliter, prompting a level 2 advisory. Daniel Thorell of the Health Department said the E.coli levels are consistent with prior testing results at the beach following a heavy rainfall, which occurred in the area overnight Tuesday into Wednesday.
“It’s pretty predictable when there’s a rainstorm,” said Thorell. “The source involves many different factors. A lot of it we believe is wildlife -- raccoons that live in the storm sewer and of course water fowl along the waters edge.”
