Two dead in Mayfield Township crash

TRAVERSE CITY — A stretch of M-37 was closed as Grand Traverse County sheriff's deputies investigated a fatal two-vehicle collision in Mayfield Township.

Sheriff's Capt. Randy Fewless said two Benzie County men died in the crash, which occurred today at 9:40 a.m. He said the victims' pickup truck and a semi-truck with a trailer collided around Center Road south of M-113.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Fewless said the passenger was transported to Munson Medical Center but later died from his injuries.

The semi-truck driver was not injured.

Northbound and southbound traffic was diverted around the crash. The road reopened around 3:30.
