Prep Sports Roundup: Trojans top Titans in BNC match

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Central swept all eight flights Thursday against Big North crosstown rival Traverse City West.

In singles matches, Paige Cooley (24-2) beat Sierra Falconer 6-0, 6-1; Kitty Mast (20-5) defeated Morgan Harris 6-1, 6-1; Christi Druskovich (23-3) topped Kalyn Peterson 6-1, 6-0; and Taylor Weckstein (22-3) beat Emma Bixby 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles, Amelia Pezzetti and Elizabeth Pappas (20-5) beat Alex Hornbogen and Ellis Masters 6-0, 6-1; Devon Dotterrer and Abby Palisin (22-3) took down Paxton Ellul and Grace Ellul 6-2, 6-1; Isabel Lutz and Molly Whiting (22-3) won against Allie Richey and Kit Hornbogen 6-2, 6-1; and Caroline Gardner and Angela Amalfitano beat Elizabeth Anton and Morgan Culp 6-0, 6-0.

The Trojans, ranked seventh in Division 1, are at the eight-team Holland Invitational on Saturday.

Petoskey 5

TC St. Francis 3

In a battle of teams ranked in their respective divisions, Petoskey edged Traverse City St. Francis 5-3.

The Gladiators’ wins came at No. 1 singles, where Amanda Bandrowski (14-1) won 6-3, 6-4, and at No. 2 singles, where Natalie Burke (14-1) posted a 6-0, 6-3 victory, plus at No. 3 doubles, with Sarah Stayman and Rosie Wilson (14-1) winning 6-4, 7-5.

The No. 4 doubles team of Jenna Tomczak and Jessica Pax (14-1) took their first loss of the year in a tough three-set match, 6-7, 6-4, 4-10.

St. Francis’s No. 2 doubles team of Courtney McCardel and Carlee McCardel also is 14-1 on the season.

St. Francis hosts a quad meet today against Midland, Traverse City West and Petoskey.


TC Thunder 11

TC Bayhawks 0

Jack Brewer and John Leaming each had three goals in leading the Traverse City Thunder over the Traverse City Bayhawks 11-0.

Ellis Begley and Ted Okerstrom had two goals apiece and Chris Chang also scored.

Zack Collins led the effort defensively, and Mitch Wynkoop made five saves.

The Thunder (5-0) play two games in Detroit on Saturday.

Frankfort 0 0

Suttons Bay pitchers didn’t allow a run over two games against Frankfort, with the first game ending in a 0-0 tie after seven innings and the Norsemen blanking the Panthers 7-0 in the nightcap.
