Haas 100th

TRAVERSE CITY — The Jeff Haas Quintet with special guests Marcus and Joan Belgrave will perform an evening of jazz classics and original compositions Sunday, May 4, in a celebration of Haas’ father’s 100th birthday.

Karl Haas changed the musical landscape of Detroit and the rest of the country during the 44-year run of his “Adventures in Good Music.” The radio program was carried on more than 650 stations in the U.S., Australia and New Zealand with an average daily listenership of 3.6 million people.

The tribute to the elder Haas starts at 7 p.m. at the City Opera House, 106 E. Front St. The doors open at 6 p.m. The evening also features the Traverse City premiere of a documentary on Karl Haas produced by Jeff and his sister Alyce.

Mother-Daughter lunch

WILLIAMSBURG — The Yuba Historical Society will host a Mother-Daughter Luncheon on Saturday, May 3.

The event will be held from noon-2:30 p.m. at the Williamsburg Dinner Theater on M-72 East. It includes a catered lunch, entertainment and a silent auction.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for ages 10 and younger. They are available at the door; or call 264-8038 for advance reservations. Proceeds will help fund restoration of the 150-year-old Yuba School as a museum and community center.

Music ‘on the porch’

TRAVERSE CITY — Singer/songwriter Rebecca Loebe is the next performer in Sleder’s Family Tavern’s “On the Porch” concert series.

The Atlanta, Ga., native will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at the tavern, 717 Randolph St. Advance tickets are $15 at Sleder’s, Oryana Natural Foods Market, Zamar Guitar, Marshall Music or by calling 947-9213. Tickets are $20 at the door.

Fiddlers’ Jamboree

TRAVERSE CITY — The Original Michigan Fiddlers Association will host a Fiddlers Jamboree and an old-fashioned square and round dance on Saturday, May 3, at Twin Lakes Park, 6800 N. Long Lake Road.
