From staff reports

FLORENCE, Ky. — The Traverse City Beach Bums unleashed a 15-hit attack Thursday night in thumping the Florence Freedom 8-5 in a Frontier League contest.

Zach Kometani led the assault with a double, triple and home run. He drove in five runs.

Jacob Clem (3-3) was the recipient of the barrage. He pitched seven innings, allowing four runs on six hits. Matt Miller, the team’s third pitcher of the night, earned his third save.

The Beach Bums, who won the final two games in the three-game set, never trailed after Chase Burch delivered a two-run single in the first. Kometani smacked a two-run homer in the third. Sean Gusrang added a solo shot in the fifth. Kometani then tripled in two runs in the sixth and doubled in one in the eighth. His two-run triple gave Traverse City a 7-1 lead at the time.

Matt Howard went 4-for-4 at the plate for Traverse City, now 13-11 and tied with Florence for third in the East Division.

Burch and Jose Vargas contributed two hits apiece. Vargas scored three times, Burch twice.

Taylor Wrenn extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a fourth-inning single.

Traverse City hosts Joliet tonight at Wuerfel Park. Scott Dunn (4-0, 2.43) gets the call for Traverse City, Corey Kimes (2-2, 5.23) for Joliet. Dunn will be shooting for his 20th career win as a Beach Bum. He also needs one strikeout to reach 200.
