Prep Sports Roundup: Frankfort baseball sweeps

SCOTTVILLE — Frankfort started out the baseball season with a doubleheader sweep of Mason Count Central, holding the Spartans scoreless in 4-0 and 3-0 victories.

Panther pitchers Nolan Nye and R.J. Kennis each tossed shutouts. Nye struck out five and scattered three hits over six innings in the 4-0 opener, while Kennis fanned four in a five-inning two-hitter.

Kole Hollenbeck was 3-for-4 with two RBIs on the day, and Ken Frieswyk belted a triple.

Frankfort (2-0) travels to Manistee Catholic Central today.

Jake Kiessel, Aaron Orban and Logan Mikesell combined on a pair of shutout victories to open the Suttons Bay baseball season with a 15-0 and 2-0 doubleheader sweep of Traverse City Christian.

Kiessel and Orban combined in the opener, while Orban and Mikesell had eight strikeouts in five frames on no-hit ball during the nightcap.

Jesse Fox and Dylan Grant each had RBI doubles to start out the day, and the pair scored the only nightcap runs.

Frankfort opened up the softball season with a sweep of Mason County Central, 7-2 and 15-5.

Katie Gokey led the Panthers (2-0) with four hits — two in each game.

Aleah Hunt struck out 10 over six innings in a two-hit, opening-game effort, while Kolby Spencley fanned six over five innings of the nightcap.

MacKenna Kelly had two hits in the opener, and Sophie Nye blasted a triple.

Frankfort travels today to Manistee Catholic Central.
