GT County jail escapee sentenced to 60 days
TRAVERSE CITY — A Grand Traverse County Jail inmate who never returned from his work release was sentenced to 60 days in jail.
Robert Alan McCann, 46, had been missing for two months and on Thursday pleaded guilty to one count of attempting to escape from a misdemeanor jail sentence.
A warrant was issued on Wednesday for a Traverse City woman, Brandi Lynn Grose, 30, for knowingly concealing or harboring McCann. Grose is named in a police report as McCann’s girl friend.
Grose could face a misdemeanor charge of harboring an escapee and up to 93 days in jail or a $500 fine.
Such a charge is rare in Traverse County, Grand Traverse County Prosecutor Bob Cooney said.
“I can’t remember charging harboring an escapee in the past,” Cooney said.
Police arrested McCann at a Blair Township residence after following up on a tip.
McCann originally was arrested on a probation violation from a domestic violence charge. He was within days of being released when he escaped.
