FRANKFORT — Evelyn Hawley Eckerle Wells, 73, of Frankfort, died Feb. 7, 2013. Evelyn was born in Frankfort on June 7, 1939, to Morris and Leora Hawley. She moved with her mother and stepfather to Bath.
She met and married William Eckerle on Oct 20, 1955, and together they had four children. She divorced in 1969.
She became a seamstress in the mid '70s and worked at Barron Draperies until she decided to move back home in 1983. She went on to work at Mitchell Corp. in August of 1984.
She found a love for rose gardening and cooking. She spent the last 13 years at the Maples in Frankfort. She was always happy to see her kids and grandkids. Evelyn had many friends at the Maples.
She is survived by son, Bruce (Pam) Eckerle, of Lansing; daughters, Vicki (Gary) Acre, of Benzonia, and LeeAnn Eckerle, of Lansing; brothers, Ted (Patty) Hawley, of Frankfort, and Pat (Sally) Manke, of Arcadia; sisters, Cindy Brown and partner, Andrea Ware, of Bear Lake, and Pam (Phillip) Stoops, of Benzonia; grandchildren, Kelly (Josh) Peirsma, of Arcadia, Amy Acre, of Benzonia, Mike Acre, of Escanaba, Amanda and Chris Symons, Shane and Chadd Eckerle, Nicole and Josh Powers, all of Lansing; four great-grandchildren and a fifth one due any day.
She was preceded in death by her daughters, Debra Lynn Eckerle; father, Morris Hawley; mother and stepfather, Leora and Edwin Manke; brother, Ed Hawley; and her guardian angel, Elizabeth Jones.
There will be a gathering this summer for a celebration of her life.
