Loss is Stags first in league since 2009-10

KINGSLEY — Benzie Central handed Kingsley its first Northwest Conference girls basketball loss since the 2009-10 season Thursday night with a 52-48 overtime victory.

Jordan Nye led the Huskies with 26 points. She hit a 3-pointer in the closing seconds to force overtime at 40-40. Makayla Huddleston added 17 points. Autumn Goggin netted 31 points for Kingsley (13-3, 9-1), which travels to Leland on Tuesday.

Glen Lake moved to within a game of Kingsley in the Northwest Conference race with a 65-31 win over Leland.

Scotlyn Brengman's 16 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals paced the Lakers (12-4, 8-2). Jordan Peplinski followed with 12 points and four rebounds and Katie Stowe and Jessica Lee 10 points.

Libby Munoz and Maddie Trumbull netted 12 points for the Comets.

Glen Lake is at Mesick on Tuesday.

Mesick      22

Frankfort improved to 9-3 in the Northwest Conference with a 49-22 win over Mesick.

Keelan Kelly led the Panthers (9-7 overall) with eight points. Maisie Nugent and Kristin Smeltzer added seven apiece.

Gabby Kline's six points topped Mesick.

Frankfort plays St. Joseph Lutheran Seminary on Saturday at Davenport College in Grand Rapids.

Buckley      51 Suttons Bay      43

Bailee Kuhn's 15 points and four assists led Buckley to a 51-43 Northwest Conference win over Suttons Bay.

The Bears (7-8) led 36-18 at half. Ciera Cabanting and Montana Jayska added eight points apiece.

Delaney Kaufman's 13 points and 24 rebounds paced Suttons Bay. Beedoskah Stonefish and Hannah Steed chipped in 10 points.

Buckley is at Benzie Central on Tuesday while Suttons Bay hosts Frankfort.

Gaylord St. Mary      50 Bellaire      24

Gaylord St. Mary jumped out to a 29-14 lead at half en route to a 50-24 Ski Valley win over Bellaire.

Kari Borowiak led the Snowbirds (16-2, 13-1) with 17 points. Mary Spyhalski added 12 and freshman Bekah Myler 10. Katie Thornton's seven points topped Bellaire.

St. Mary hosts Forest Area on Tuesday. Bellaire hosts Forest Area on Saturday.

Johannesburg      52 Central Lake      38

Down two at half, Johannesburg-Lewiston fought back for a 52-38 Ski Valley win over Central Lake.

The Cardinals (16-1, 13-1) took a three-point lead, 34-21, into the final eight minutes. Central Lake hit just 3-of-11 free throws in the fourth quarter to see its upset hopes vanish.

Maddy Showerman led Johannesburg with 16 points. Abby Schlicher contributed 12 points and five assists and Brittany Cherwinski nine points.

Lauren Rogers scored 15 points for the Trojans (8-7), who were coming off a win over Atlanta on Monday. Haley Patton added eight.

Central Lake hosts Mancelona on Saturday while the Cardinals take on Pellston on Tuesday.

Emily Gonyer's 21 points and four steals sparked Forest Area to a 48-36 Ski Valley win over Mancelona.

Gonyer was 9-of-10 at the foul line.

Kortni Birgy added 13 points and 13 rebounds for the Warriors (2-10). Lindsey Czuk pulled down 14 rebounds and blocked five shots.

Vanessa Bachelor netted 11 points and Tyra Oetting 10 for Mancelona.

Onaway      63 Pellston      28

Bolting to a 19-2 first quarter lead, Onaway cruised to a 63-28 Ski Valley win over Pellston.

Kallie Shimel scored 17 points while Mariah Ehrke chipped in 10 points and 14 rebounds for the Cardinals (13-4, 10-4), who host Rogers City on Tuesday.
