---- — Holy Week services

LELAND — “The Week That Changed the World” is the theme for Holy Week at Leland Methodist Church, 106 Fourth St.

Palm Sunday services at 9:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday, March 24, mark Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Special music includes a duet of Rutter’s “Pie Jesu” by Pastor Linda Farmer-Lewis and Joan Brown and “The Psalms” sung by Luke Speicher. The Chancel Choir will sing seven anthems.

Maundy Thursday, March 28, commemorates the Last Supper. The service starts at 7 p.m. and includes Communion.

Good Friday, March 29, will reflect on the Seven Last Words of Christ spoken at Calvary as Jesus was crucified and died on the cross. An hour-long service will start at 12:30 p.m.

Worshippers are invited to services at 9:30 or 11 a.m. Easter Sunday, March 31. A children’s message will take place during the 9:30 a.m. service

A coffee fellowship is held at 10:30 a.m. every Sunday between services in the church’s lower-level hall.

Wings of Wonder

TRAVERSE CITY — Ten-year-old Jonah Villanueva, a supporter of Wings of Wonder, has organized a fundraiser for the raptor sanctuary Saturday, March 23, at Books-A-Million.

From noon to 4 p.m., the book store, 2612 Crossing Circle, will donate 10 percent of proceeds to the organization when shoppers give the cashier the following donation code, 7000000642.

Journey to Easter

TRAVERSE CITY — Bethlehem Lutheran Church will start Holy Week with a special celebration service at 10:30 a.m. Palm Sunday, March 24. The Sunday School also will have an intergenerational event at 9:15 a.m.

Holy Week continues with dinner and a movie at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28, followed at 7:30 p.m. by a worship service and Communion.

Good Friday will include a service at 7:30 p.m., while Saturday, March 30, will feature an Easter Vigil service, also at 7:30 p.m. There will be no 5 p.m. service on Saturday.

Services on Easter Sunday, March 31, will be held at 8 and 10:30 a.m. A potluck breakfast will start at 9 a.m.

All services will be at the church, 1050 Peninsula Dr.

History series

HORTON BAY — The Charlevoix County History Preservation Society’s first History Speaker Series event of 2013 will be “The Bay Township Hall - Ready for Another 125 Years.”

The program starts at 7 p.m. Monday, March 25, at the newly restored Bay Township Hall, 05045 Boyne City Road. Guest speakers are Annie Burnett and Georganna Monk. Attendees will hear about the township hall, tour the building and view artifacts recovered in the renovation. Admission is free and the public is welcome. Call 582-5326 for details.

Artists sought

TRAVERSE CITY — The Minervini Group is seeking art entries for its upcoming exhibit “April Showers Bring May Flowers: The Art of Weather and Landscapes.”

The multi-media group show will open with an artist reception in the North Mercato during the Village at Grand Traverse Commons’ First Friday event on April 5. The exhibit will be on display through June 2.

Successful Aging

TRAVERSE CITY — Hearing Solutions of Northwest Michigan will present the Monday, March 25, Successful Aging Series program.

The 2 p.m. program will focus on hearing evaluations, hearing aid services, tinnitus, and assistive listening devices. It will be held at the Grand Traverse Pavilions on South Elmwood Avenue. The program is free and open to the public.
