Book program

Traverse City — Gordon Galloway, author of "Full Circle," and Randy Park, the subject of the book, will give a program Saturday, Feb. 2, at Horizon Books, 243 E. Front St.

Park grew up in Big Rapids, where his family owned and operated a sawmill. A distinguished football player at the high school level, Park also played for Ferris State University and the Michigan Charity Football League. At 21 he was injured in a motorcycle accident that resulted in the loss of his right leg below the knee.

The program will start at 2 p.m. Park will discuss the medical and psychological problems associated with life as an amputee. Following the presentation, Park and Galloway will sign books until 4 p.m.

Family Nights

Traverse City — Family Fun Nights at the Grand Traverse Bay YMCA are tonight, Feb. 1, and Friday, Feb. 15.

Tonight's event has a "Queen of Hearts" theme with games, open gym and more at the main facility, 3000 Racquet Club Dr.

The Friday, Feb. 15, event also will have a Valentine's theme. It will be held at the Y Child Care Center, 1100 Woodmere Ave., suite B, and is geared toward families with younger children.

Both events will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission is free for Y member families; $15 for non-member families. For details, visit

Valentine's Show

Traverse City — Vendors will display their products at a Valentine's Day Show Saturday, Feb. 2, at the American Military League's new location in the old Sara Lee Outlet, 2423 Sybrandt Road.

The show will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. There will be a cash bar, refreshments, raffles, give-aways and more. Vendors are being added daily. For details, email
