Betty K. Feild

SALT LAKE CITY — Betty Katherine (Balkie) Feild quietly left this life and into the arms of her loving husband on Jan. 17, 2013. She was born on Aug. 6, 1926 in Rock Springs, Wyo. to John Simon Balkie and Cora Beatrice Baker.

In high school Betty worked as a bookkeeper for a sheep rancher and then after graduating from Rock Springs High School she worked as a bookkeeper at Rock Springs National Bank. On June 3, 1950 she married her sweetheart, Russell W. Feild. They were married for 60 years, during which time they lived in many places across the U.S. They had two children Bradford T. Feild and Marla K. Feild, who were the most precious part of Betty's life and for which she was most proud of.

Betty had a warm and friendly personality and had a way of making all she came in contact with feel important. She was one who never knew a stranger. She had an infectious laugh. Her relationships with friends and family were most important to her and she made a point to keep in touch with all those she loved. Betty loved all things of nature, especially dogs. She loved to garden, watch the sunsets and northern lights from her home in northern Michigan. In the last years of her life as she declined with the effects of Alzheimer's disease she continued to touch the lives of those around her. She always had a smile on her face, never complained and was always concerned for the welfare of others. Her caregivers told me that if they were having a bad day, all they needed to do was go find Betty and she would brighten their day.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Vernice Rudelich; husband, Russell Feild; son, Brad Feild and niece, Rose Marie Langan. She is survived by her daughter Marla Feild; special niece Betty Jo Smith and best friend Jeanne Schubert.

A funeral service will be held Jan. 26, 2013 at noon in Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah. A viewing will be held from 10:30 to 11:45 at the funeral home prior to the services. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery, 2350 E. 1300 S., Salt Lake City, Utah.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (als.org) P.O. Box 96011 Washington, DC 20090-6011.

I would like to express heartfelt thanks to the staff at Sunrise Senior Living for the tender care they gave mom and for loving her as though she were their grandma. A special thank you to Dr. Christopher Gay of Evolutionary Health Care and to Franki Loftus of Inspiration Hospice, for loving mom and taking such amazing care of her and for helping me through this final journey of mom's.
