Man accused in crash death headed to trial
BELLAIRE — A man accused of driving drunk in a crash that killed an Antrim County woman is headed toward trial.
Thomas Joseph Altobelli, 60, waived his preliminary examination Thursday before 86th District Judge Michael Haley.
The Harrison Township man is charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death, operating while intoxicated causing serious injury and operating with a high blood-alcohol content.
Authorities said Altobelli crashed a vehicle head-on into another vehicle along Alba Highway on Nov. 23. Diane Shafer, 37, a passenger in the second vehicle, later died from her injuries.
Two blood-alcohol tests were administered. The first came back at .207, and the second resulted in .23. The legal limit in Michigan is .08.
Altobelli remains free on $20,000 bond.
Man charged for alleged assaults
TRAVERSE CITY — A Traverse City man faces criminal sexual conduct charges after he allegedly assaulted a girl several times over the summer in Grand Traverse County.
Police arrested Shaun Dena Brown, 34, on Feb. 27. He is charged with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Brown is accused of sexually assaulting a friend’s female relative. Court records show the incidents occurred at a home in Interlochen and at a Traverse City park between June and August 2012.
Brown is held in jail without bond, according to court records. A preliminary examination is scheduled for March 14.
