TRAVERSE CITY — Maxine Rae Redfield, 92, of Traverse City, formerly of Wellston, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at Birchwood Nursing Center in Traverse City. She was born June 25, 1920, in Ganges, the daughter of Ray and Clara Mae (Henning) St. John.
Maxine married Howard S. Redfield on Nov. 4, 1939, in Bangor, Mich. In 1946, they moved to Wellston.
Maxine worked for Chittenden Nursery in Wellston and the Alaska Seafood Company in Homer, Alaska.
Maxine was known for her ability to cook and her wonderful baked goods. In her spare time Maxine enjoyed reading, knitting, traveling and an occasional trip to the casino.
Maxine is survived by her daughter, Suzanne (Frank) McCary, of Traverse City; four grandchildren, Joy McCary, of San Diego, Calif., Franklyn McCary Jr., of Kingsley, Mark (Tammi) Redfield, of Cedar Springs, and Jill Redfield, of Gaylord; eight great-grandchildren, Beau, Elizabeth, Benjamin, Nathan, Jordan, Rachel, Taylor and Madyson; two great-great-grandchildren, Eliaana and Adelyn; her brother-in-law, George Lobdel, of Interlochen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Sidney Redfield; her son, Sidney Redfield; her sisters, Jean Rector, Bernidean Robinson and Geraldine Lobdel; and her brothers, Edwin St. John and Elwin St. John.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva, with the Reverend Daniel E. Furman officiating. Interment will follow in the Wellston Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from noon until time of services at the funeral home.
