Prep Sports Roundup: Bellaire earns district title game berth

---- — HARBOR SPRINGS — Bellaire advanced to its Division 4 district championship game with a 6-0 shutout of Burt Lake Northern Michigan Christian Academy.

The Eagles (21-1) will face Charlevoix in today’s 5 p.m. title game in Harbor Springs.

Drew Emery had a hat trick in the first 25 minutes of the game and Bellaire rolled to a 5-0 lead at half. Nic Underwood and Denny Hall also scored in the first 40 minutes. Adam Underwood and Hall each had 2 assists.

Carissa Boni added a PK goal in the second half. Adam Crandall recorded 8 saves in the net for the shutout.

NMCA finishes the season with a 6-13 record and doesn’t lose any players to graduation.


Suttons Bay 3

Forest Area 1

Suttons Bay won a close four-game match over non-conference foe Forest Area.

The Norse won 25-22, 26-24, 23-25, 25-19.

Suttons Bay was led for the evening by Delaney Kaufman (eight kills, three aces, two blocks, seven digs), Jayne McFarlane (five aces, four digs, 33 assists), Jessica Hunt (six aces, 10 kills), Kendall Schaub (three digs, one ace), Kyra Vezina (five aces, 10 kills, two digs), Rachel Pasche (six kills) and Veronica Anderson (two aces, three kills).

The Norse (21-14-5, 4-2 Northwest Conference) travel Tuesday to Glen Lake.

Forest Area (16-18-4) was led by Tabitha Cecil (eight kills, five aces), Alyssa Birgy (12 digs) and Sydney Gooden (five kills). The Warriors are at Inland Lakes next Tuesday.


TC Central 48

Ogemaw Hts. 22

Mason Houston and Devante Walker each scored three touchdowns as the Traverse City Central JV rolled to a 48-22 win over Ogemaw Heights.

Houston scored on runs of 50 and 45 yards.He also returned a kick 70 yards for a touchdown. Walker went in from 70, 35 and 25 yards. Nik Norton had the other Central score on a 36-yard run.

The Trojans (3-5) close out at Cadillac next week.

TC West 48

Gaylord 6

Zac Zoutendam threw three touchdown passes to lead Traverse City West to a 48-6 victory over Gaylord in junior varsity action.

Zoutendam hooked up with Taylor McWethy, Sam Alexander and Alex Tokie on touchdown passes.

Tokie added a 56-yard interception return for a score, Noah Wiechert and Joey Leal each had 8-yard TD runs and Tyler Cypher tossed a TD pass to Austin Cochrane.

TC West is 6-2 this season.
