---- — TRAVERSE CITY — A woman is recovering after authorities believe her boyfriend accidentally shot her in the leg.

Deputies responded Thursday at about 11:20 a.m. to the 300 block of West Silver Lake Road in Garfield Township on a report of a shooting victim.

The woman and her boyfriend were discussing different shooting scenarios. The man took a 9mm handgun out of a holster to demonstrate something when it discharged, said Grand Traverse County sheriff's Capt. Dave Meachum.

The woman was hospitalized at Munson Medical Center on Thursday and authorities last heard she was doing "very well," Meachum said. She was cooperative with deputies.

Another adult was at the home at the time of the shooting, and at least one person at the home had a concealed pistol license, Meachum said.

Michigan State Police will inspect the gun to determine any manufacturing or repair problems.

There were no signs of foul play, and alcohol was not involved.

A report will be sent to the prosecutor's office for review.
