Elk Rapids wins soccer regional title

ELK RAPIDS - The Elk Rapids Elks advanced to the state semifinals after a 2-1 win over Whitehall in a Division 3 regional championship game in Elk Rapids on Friday night.

The game was tied 0-0 at the end of regulation, and each team scored once in overtime, meaning the game would be decided on penalty kicks. Elk Rapids converted four penalty kicks to Whitehall's three to win the game and the regional crown.

The Elks next play Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Midland, against either Williamston or Frankenmuth.
