Bluebird Festival

TRAVERSE CITY — The Michigan Bluebird Society will host its Spring Bluebird Festival on Saturday at The Hagerty Center, 715 E. Front St.

The event will taken place from 9:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. and has been scheduled to coincide with the arrival in Michigan of the first migratory bluebirds. Seminars and workshop topics are “Getting Started in Bluebirding,” “The Sleeping Bear Birding Trail,” “Birding by Ear,” and “Build Your Own Nest Box.”

There also will be a bluebird panel discussion, a Kids’ Corner with child-friendly activities, and the Bluebird Society’s Bluebird Expo with a wide variety of birding-related merchandise.

To register, go to www.michiganbluebirds.org. The festival is free and open to the public. Lunch is available for $7.50 for adults; $5 for children.

Music ‘On the Porch’

TRAVERSE CITY — Louann Lechler will open for Red House recording artist Bill Staines in the next “On the Porch” concert at Sleder’s Family Tavern.

The concert starts at 4 p.m. Sunday at Sleder’s, 717 Randolph St. Tickets are $15 in advance at Sleder’s, Oryana Natural Foods Market, Brilliant Books and Zamar Guitar. Tickets are $20 at the door. Details and tickets also are available by calling 947-9213.

Wine Trail event

LEELANAU PENINSULA — A free “Sips, Chips & Dips” event will be hosted Saturday along the Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail.

Peninsula wineries will offer complimentary wine tastes paired with everyday snacks from noon-5 p.m. For wine and snack pairings, visit www.lpwines.com.

Quilt workshop

TRAVERSE CITY — The deadline to register for a student workshop titled “Spring Break Stitching: Explore Contemporary Quilts” is today at noon.

The workshop will meet at the Dennos Museum Center, 1410 College Dr., from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday, March 31, for students in grades three through five; and Tuesday, April 1, for students in grade six through eight.
