Sports in Brief: 03/07/2014

Coach Mike Krzyzewski is out of the hospital and at practice with No. 4 Duke after feeling light-headed during a loss at Wake Forest.

Team spokesman Matt Plizga says Krzyzewski led practice on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, the school issued a statement that Krzyzewski was taken to Duke University Hospital in Durham for a precautionary examination after the 82-72 loss in Winston-Salem. He was sent home in the early morning after the school says his condition improved.

NFL

BEARS: Chicago says kick returner Devin Hester will not be re-signed.

COLTS: Veteran linebacker D’Qwell Jackson agreed to a contract with the Indianapolis Colts. Jackson received a four-year deal worth $22 million, including $11 million guaranteed, a league source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The team also released starting center Samson Satele.

PACKERS: Popular fullback John Kuhn will test free agency after he and the team couldn’t come to an agreement on a contract.

VIKINGS: Runningback Adrian Peterson advocated fro the team to sign free agent quarterback Michael Vick on Twitter.

BRONCOS: The Denver Broncos are expected to release 12-time Pro Bowl cornerback Champ Bailey in a move to save space under the salary cap. Bailey was scheduled to make around $10 million next season.

OLYMPICS

SKATEBOARDING: Christophe Dubi, sport director for the International Olympic Committee, announced in February that the IOC is aiming to officially recognize the International Skateboard Federation in 2014, an important step towards eventually bringing skateboarding to the Summer Games.

SOCCER

TC’S WEBER WINS SCHOLARSHIP: Traverse City Christian defenseman Daniel Weber has been selected as one of five scholarship winners by the Michigan State Youth Soccer Association. The scholarship will be awarded at the MSYSA annual awards ceremony tonight at the Greektown Casino & Hotel in Detroit. The captain of the 2013 Record-Eagle Soccer Dream Team, Weber also plays for the NorthStorm Soccer Club in the Michigan State Premier Soccer Program. He has a 4.0 grade point average, and plans to study biology at the University of Michigan. Weber is a two-year member of the National Honor Society as well.
