DAV hot dogs

TRAVERSE CITY — The Disabled American Veterans of Grand Traverse Area will be serving free hot dogs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, May 25-26, to everyone visiting the Grand Traverse County Veterans Memorial Park on 11th Street, east of South Elmwood Avenue. Bluegrass picnic

LAKE LEELANAU — Fountain Point Inn & Club will open a series of summer lakefront concerts with a Family Bluegrass/Folk Picnic.

The all-day event starts at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 26, at the inn, 990 S. Lake Leelanau Dr. There will be a BYO-style picnic with music by Detour, The True Falsettos, Billy Strings and Don Julin and bagpiper Stephen McNeil.

Tickets are $25 in advance at Oryana Natural Foods Market,, or 256-9800. Tickets are $30 at the door. Accompanied children and Fountain Point Club members will be admitted free.

Composting Day

TRAVERSE CITY — Oryana Natural Foods Market, Carter’s Compost, and Bay Area Recycling will sponsor a Community Composting Day on Wednesday, May 29.

Bay Area Recycling will be on hand from 10 a.m. to noon with a truck of finished compost for the taking. Customers should bring a bucket and there is a one-bucket limit per person. There also will be an educational table with compost literature and order forms for Bay Area Recycling’s compost soil delivery service.

From 4:30 to 7 p.m., Carter Schmidt of Carter’s Compost will bring his mobile compost pile for a worm-wrangling vermicompost demonstration. There also will be informational pamphlets, refreshments and samples of his finished compost.

Women Givers’

TRAVERSE CITY — Linda Lindquist-Bishop, co-founder of Rising Tide Leadership Institute, will be the guest speaker for the Three Generations Circle of Women Givers’ annual meeting luncheon.

The luncheon will be held Wednesday, May 29, from 11:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Great Wolf Lodge White Pine Ballroom. It will celebrate seven community organizations that will receive funding from Circle members. Tickets are $25.
