Longtime TCAPS administrator Mohr to retire

TRAVERSE CITY — A longtime Traverse City Area Public Schools administrator will retire this spring.

Jayne Mohr, the district's associate superintendent, plans to leave her post March 1, district officials said.

Mohr worked in education for 35 years as a teacher, counselor, principal and administrator. She spent the last 20 years as an administrator at TCAPS.

Mohr described working with TCAPS staff and community members as an "incredibly rewarding" experience.

"Having been here for 20 years, this has definitely become a family for me," Mohr said. "I’ll certainly miss my interactions with students, teachers, administrators, parents and community members."

Christine Davis, TCAPS' executive director of human resources, said Mohr was "instrumental" in many of the district's achievements and new programming initiatives during her tenure, including the Front Street Writers program and a district-wide elementary school world language program.

"We've been very fortunate to have her in the district for as long as we have," Davis said.

Other TCAPS administrators and staff members will cover Mohr's responsibilities immediately following her retirement. Davis said district officials will be putting together a plan to fill Mohr's role in the near future.

Mohr said working in education is a "wonderful" career path to choose and she's saddened by declining enrollment in Michigan colleges' teaching programs.

"Our children are our future, and we have to help develop them to shape our future for the world," Mohr said.
