Snowshoe race

TRAVERSE CITY — YMCA Hayo-Went-Ha Camp will sponsor its seventh annual Frozen Torch Snowshoe Race on Saturday, Jan. 4, at the camp, 1350 E. Arbutus Lake Road.

Early registration is $25 through today, Dec. 27; $30 after today.

The first 25 registrants receive a free T-shirt and all participants are invited to a complimentary chili lunch.

There will be both 5K and 10K events with prizes for the top finishers.

A fun walk also will be offered.

New Year’s Eve

ACME — The Grand Traverse Resort and Spa will host a New Year’s Eve celebration on Tuesday, Dec. 31.

Festivities for adults 18 and older include a party in Governor’s Hall with entertainment and dancing music by the Blue Water Kings, dinner, a champagne toast at midnight and a cash bar.

Tickets are $85 per person and proper attire is requested. A New Year’s Eve overnight package also is available starting at $277 per couple.

New Year’s Eve activities for children ages 6 to 14 will be offered from 6 p.m.-1 a.m. in the Health Club.

Activities include games, arts and crafts, a pizza party and a balloon drop at midnight. The cost is $40 per child.

Cherry T Ball

TRAVERSE CITY — The fourth annual Cherry T Ball Drop will be held on New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, in downtown Traverse City.

Downtown streets will close to traffic at 4 p.m. and activities get underway at 9:30 p.m.

There will be live music by Miriam Pico and the Supplementals and a DJ throughout the evening. Fireworks will be staged at Clinch Park.
