Prep Basketball Roundup: Frankfort girls clinch title


Showerman put up 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals, while Cherwinski had 10 points and eight steals.

Brittany Cherwinski pitched in 15 points and Abbie May eight.

Beal City 55

Manton 39

Beal City caught fire in the second half to earn a 55-39 Highland Conference win over Manton.

The Rangers led 27-23 at halftime, but the Aggies turned that around into a four-point lead going into the fourth quarter.

Kara Baker led Manton with eight points, while Olivia Kunkel and Brittany Brauer each had seven. The Rangers (7-10, 3-8 HC) visit McBain Northern Michigan Christian on Tuesday.

TC St. Francis JV 38

Elk Rapids JV 25

Colleen LaBonte and Gigi Ward each reached double figures in Traverse City St. Francis’ 38-25 junior varsity win over Elk Rapids.

LaBonte ended up with 14 points and Ward 11 for the Gladiators (8-10).

CeCe Hiser and Kendra Wilke led the Elks with five points each.


Alpena 70

Cadillac 46

Alpena pulled away after a low-scoring first half to notch a 70-46 Big North Conference win over Cadillac.

The Wildcats led 27-20 at halftime before erupting for 43 second-half points.

Andy Marwede and Brad Styma scored 17 points each for Alpena (13-1, 8-1 BNC), while Justin Liptak scored 18 for the Vikings (10-5, 6-4 BNC).

Manistee 52

TC Christian 48

Alex Bialik scored 23 points to lead Manistee to a 52-48 non-conference win over Traverse City Christian.

Matt Simmons added 15 for the Chippewas.

Kris Crosby led Christian with 23 points, 13 rebounds and four assists, while Kevin Mannes added nine points and seven boards.

The Sabres (8-6) host the Cherryland Conference tournament, which starts Monday.

Lake Leelanau SM 56

Burt Lake NMCA 17

Drew Pobuda’s double-double led Lake Leelanau St. Mary’s to a 56-17 win over Burt Lake Northern Michigan Christian Academy.

Christian Holmes, Jack Garthe and Dan Duperon each added eight points for the Eagles (7-6), who travel to Onekama tonight.

Jeff Thompson scored 10 of Burt Lake’s 17 points.

Elk Rapids JV 61

TC St. Francis JV 52

Devin Sempert’s 14 points led Elk Rapids to a 61-52 overtime junior varsity victory over Traverse City St. Francis.

Max Douglas and Logan Crawford added 12 points and Cody Waite 11 for the Elks, while St. Francis (11-4) was paced by Joe Coates’ 14 and Drew McFadden’s 12.
