Prep Basketball Roundup: Frankfort girls clinch title


Suttons Bay went over .500 in Northwest Conference play with a 58-50 win over Leland.

The Norse (8-9, 6-5 NWC) received 21 points and 15 rebounds from Delaney Kaufman. Samara Slocomb added nine points and Caylee Pattison eight.

Libby Munoz scored a game-high 28 for the Comets, while Jessica Fleis pitched in a dozen.

Suttons Bay travels Monday to Glen Lake.

Benzie Central 50

Mesick 40

Makayla Huddleston’s 14 points led three Benzie Central players in double figures in a 50-40 Northwest Conference victory over Mesick.

Sara Goodchild and Charlotte Warsecke added 10 points each for the Huskies, who travel Tuesday to Glen Lake.

Mesick’s Abby Trowbridge scored 22 points to lead all scorers, adding 20 rebounds and 10 steals. The Bulldogs host Leland on Monday.

TC Bulldogs 50

Lake Leelanau SM 40

The Traverse City Bulldogs closed out their regular season with a 50-40 win over Lake Leelanau St. Mary’s.

Sarah Plamondon pitched in 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Lauren Couturier had nine points and 11 rebounds.

Hannah Weber led the Eagles with 15 points.

The Bulldogs (15-5) are off until Feb. 22, when they play in the state home school tournament at Mount Pleasant as the No. 2 seed.

Onaway 57

Pellston 29

Lexi Szymoniak’s 14th double-double of the season propelled Onaway to a 57-29 Ski Valley Conference victory over Pellston.

Szymoniak had 15 points and 11 rebounds. Erika Price added 11 points for the Cardinals (10-7, 8-7 SVC).

Kassie Lewis had seven points to lead the Hornets.

Mancelona 50

Forest Area 18

Eileen Naniseni’s 11 points paced Mancelona in a 50-18 Ski Valley Conference win over Forest Area.

Ashley Joseph and Emily Nixon had nine each for the Ironmen.

Onna Hulwick scored six to pace the Warriors, who have a busy week ahead, hosting Pellston on Monday, Gaylord St. Mary on Tuesday and Johannesburg-Lewiston on Thursday.

Central Lake 45

Madison Showerman and Kelsey Cherwinski each nearly had double-doubles in Johannesburg-Lewiston’s 68-45 Ski Valley Conference win over Central Lake.
