Party and book signing

TRAVERSE CITY — InsideOut Gallery will host a "Smell the Mitten Dance Party & Detroit Rock City Book Signing" event from 8 p.m. to midnight today, June 28.

The event will include a book signing by Steve Miller, author of "Detroit Rock City," and a live radio broadcast with Ben Hamper's special edition of "Soul Possession" live on air Smell the Mitten Dance Party (WNMC 90.7). A cash bar will be available.

Planting class

TRAVERSE CITY — Pine Hill Village Gardens will offer "Planting 101" on Saturday, June 29

The hands-on class starts at 11 a.m. at Pine Hill, 1126 Carver St. Participants will learn planting basics from digging the right hole to fertilizing. Table tennis tourney

TRAVERSE CITY — An inaugural T.C. Pong Cherry Tournament will be held Saturday, June 29.

The doors open at 9 a.m. and the tournament starts at 10 a.m. at T.C. Pong's new location, 3843 Market Place Circle in the T.C. Outlet Center, near Old Navy. There will be table tennis brackets for ages 13 and younger through 60 and older.

Cancer center benefit

TRAVERSE CITY — The Angels on the Rail horse speed show, classic horse show, barn dance, and silent auction will be held Saturday and Sunday, June 29-30, at the Northwestern Michigan Fairgrounds on Blair Townhall Road.

The horse speed show starts at noon on Saturday, June 29, followed by the barn dance from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the swine barn, with music by ReBooted. Tickets for the dance are $15 each or $25 for two. Donations will be accepted for refreshments.
