U.S. 31 North will reopen late this afternoon

TRAVERSE CITY - Utility workers expect to have U.S. 31 North back open by 4 p.m. today after a car crash downed a power pole, according to Grand Traverse County dispatchers.

The road has been closed near Four Mile Road since this morning. A car hit and downed one power pole and left two others poles leaning over the highway, causing a reroute of traffic. A nearby condominium complex lost power.

A dispatcher said the road may be reopened as early as 3 p.m. if everything goes well with the cleanup.
