Film Festival Outtakes: 08/03/2013

- One. That's the number of films at this year's Film Festival that will be projected to the screen from actual film. The digital revolution increasingly has whittled the number of films that are released on film each year. There were seven films on reel last year at the festival. This year the single movie on film is "Phantom of the Opera," which will play Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the State Theatre. The projection will take two machines working at once and will involve projectionists working together to time the two machines to mesh from one reel to another as the movie plays.

- The Filmmaker vs. Volunteer softball game scheduled for Friday struck out because of rainy weather. Guess the teams had to shop at the Street Sale instead.

- Chris Hale on Facebook: I'm proud that the city and the region embrace the arts and film. Yet another reason why living here is so wonderful.

- Paulette Delor Green on Facebook: Why, oh why, did I ever leave TC? sigh.

- Arvin Chen, director of "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" said Traverse City is the most American city he has ever been to during the panel discussion "Only 21 Hours to Get to Traverse City: Meet Our Foreign Filmmakers." Chen, from San Francisco, now lives in Taiwan.
