---- — The Mel Larimer Concert Series is held each year at First Congregational Church to honor the late Mel Larimer, a beloved chorale director at the church and Traverse City Area Public Schools.
A Nov. 11 concert also honored veterans in observance of Veterans Day. Choral groups included the Traverse City West High School Chorale, which rehearsed the piece for several weeks at school; Northwestern Michigan College's Grand Traverse Chorale and NMC Chamber Singers; the sanctuary choir of the First Congregational Church on Center Road; several other church choir members; and a 28-piece orchestra comprised of area musicians.
Jeffrey Cobb is NMC's director of music programs, but was not acting in that formal capacity. First Congregational Church Music Minister Sally Lewis coordinated the event.
Larimer, the church's music director, began the Dick Johnson Concert Series in 1998. It was renamed in Larimer's honor after he died in 2008.
