Glass featured in Sports Illustrated
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State volleyball standout Alisha Glass was featured in this week's Sports Illustrated in the "Faces in the Crowd" section.
Glass, a Leland native, is the senior setter for the undefeated and two-time defending national champion Nitany Lions.
This season, Glass is averaging 12 assists per set as Penn State climbs the NCAA winning streak ranks.
TC Central hosting hoops program
TRAVERSE CITY -- Traverse City Central will host its second basketball program for boys in grades 3-6.
There will be leagues for fifth and sixth graders, as well as a combined league for third and fourth graders. Each league runs eight weeks and will be directed by TC Central's coaching staff and players.
To start, clinics will be held Dec. 12 and Dec. 19 at the TC Central gym. Fifth and sixth graders will go from 1-3 p.m. both days while younger kids will go from 3-5 p.m.
Cost is $30 and includes two clinics, five games and a practice jersey. Checks should be made out to TC Central Men's Basketball.
GT Ski Club swap meet is Nov. 14-15
TRAVERSE CITY -- The annual Grand Traverse Ski Club Ski and Snowboard Swap will be held Nov. 14-15 at Traverse City West Middle School.
Over 10,000 items, including downhill, cross country and snowboard equipment, ski racks, ice skates, roller blades, helmets and race suits will be available for purchase.
Equipment to be sold can be dropped off from 5-8 p.m. on Nov. 13. The sale starts at 9 a.m. Nov. 14.
Reserve tickets are passed out beginning at 7 a.m. on Nov. 14. The swap continues through Nov. 15 until 1 p.m. Money from sold equipment or unsold equipment can be picked up from 406 p.m. on Nov. 14.
The Ski Club receives a commission on all sales that goes to support training clinics, purchase equipment, make improvements to Hickory Hills, and support high school ski racing in Traverse City.

Lindquist-Bishop to speak in Leland
LELAND -- Yachting professional Linda Lindquist-Bishop will be the featured speaker at an event at the Leland Public Schools Performing Arts Center on Nov. 18.
The 7 p.m. event is the first in a series of lectures.
Lindquist-Bishop will share her journey from growing up on Lake Leelanau to her 2009 World Championship victory with Team Barking Mad in Italy this summer.
Tickets are $10 each. Children under 12 and students get in free.
