LELAND -- Terri Haugen spent childhood summers hanging out at the store her mother managed. She started selling watercolor paintings when she was 10.
Haugen's youngest daughter Kindra grew up in her mother's studio. She started selling her painted rocks when she was 5.
The two have teamed up for an exhibit this weekend at the Leland Old Art Building.
Terri Haugen is a nationally known batik artist with a gallery in Frankfort. Her work has been on the cover of Reader's Digest and other national magazines. She's been named a "master of batik" by the Japanese government and has won awards for her batik, mixed-media paintings and art quilts.
Kindra Haugen, now a student at the Ringling College of Art and Design, still paints, although she's moved past rocks. Her work has been featured on HGTV.
"She has always amazed me with her imagination and talent," Terri Haugen said of her daughter. "She has her own ideas and, when she was younger, she didn't like to hear she got it from me."
The Haugen's exhibit will be held at the Old Art Building in Leland at 111 Main St. The opening reception will be held tonight, from 7 to 9. Exhibit hours Saturday are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call 352-7640 or visit www.lessirenes.com.
