Forum: Mich. must not wait for its Sandy Hook


n Require background checks for all gun and ammunition purchases;

n Ban assault weapons and ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds;

n Track the sale of large quantities of ammunition, and ban online sales;

n Establish product safety oversight of guns and ammunition, and require child-safe gun technology;

n Support policies at companies and public institutions that promote gun safety;

n Counter the gun industry’s efforts to weaken gun laws at the state level.

Write your legislators, call, e-mail, go to legislative hearings, go to rallies, write letters to the editor. Make your voice heard as a member of the vast majority of Americans who want common-sense solutions to reduce gun violence.

In the words of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, “Let us honor those lost, and save those who will be lost if we fail to act, by rolling up our sleeves and engaging in the hard work of participatory democracy.”
