TRAVERSE CITY — Firefly restaurant is donating $1 of each dessert sale starting today, Valentine’s Day, and continuing for at least a year to the 10 Cents a Meal for School Kids & Farms program.

The Michigan Land Use Institute developed the 10 Cents a Meal program with nine school districts in Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties and the Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District. It aims to provide schools with greater ability to buy locally grown produce.

Two other businesses have provided support to the program. Cherry Capital Foods donated $2,625 in proceeds from its annual PigstockTC event. Epicure Catering contributed an additional $150 at PigstockTC.

MLUI Hopes to raise $50,000 a year for 10 Cents a Meal, or $100,000 for the two-year project. For more information, visit www.mlui.org/10cents.

Tasters’ Guild

TRAVERSE CITY — The 2013 Tasters’ Guild Auction will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 22 at Northwestern Michigan College’s Great Lakes Campus.

The annual event features a strolling dinner of international cuisine served at more than a dozen tasting tables. Prepared by Great Lakes Culinary Institute students, the menu is complemented by select regional and international wines.
