Cookbooks for guys

TRAVERSE CITY — Writer Tim Murphy has penned two more titles in the “Flannel John Cookbooks for Guys” series.

For seafood and fish aficionados, there is “Flannel John’s Pirate Galley Cookbook - Coastal Cuisine and Maritime Meals from Oceans, Lakes and Rivers.” For the backwoods, rustic soul there is “Flannel John’s Mountain Man Cookbook - Frontier Food from the Hills, Country and Backwoods.”

A 23-year radio veteran, Murphy spent 17 years hosting morning radio shows in several Michigan cities including Holland, Muskegon, Traverse City, Saginaw and Houghton. All four Flannel John books are available through Amazon.com and at flanneljohn.com.

Oryana garden

TRAVERSE CITY — Oryana Natural Foods Market celebrates its 40th anniversary with a Commemorative Garden Planting on Saturday, May 18, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Participants who wish to dig in are invited to bring their own shovels and garden gloves. The planting will take place rain or shine and refreshments will be provided.
