Farmers market

BENZONIA — The Grow Benzie Farmers Market will open for the season on Monday, June 17, from 3 to 7 p.m. at 5885 M-115.

The first market will feature lettuces and plants along with other produce, with tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and herbs expected to be available by the end of June.

Bridge Card holders can use their cards to buy fresh produce and plants at the market. Double Up Bucks will double the cards’ buying power up to a $20 matching limit.

Author visits

TRAVERSE CITY — Barbecue chef and cookbook author Troy Black will host the Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, at the Traverse City Sam’s Club location on U.S. 31 S.

Black is an award-winning competitive barbecue chef who discovered his love of barbecue while on assignment as a contributing editor for Southern Living. His awards include 11 state barbecue championships and more than 300 Top 10 awards. He is author of “The Big Book of BBQ” and has been featured on The Food Network, The Travel Channel and other national television and radio shows.

The local competition event is free and will feature tips, demonstrations and competition from 30 local teams, all cooking with meats from Sam’s Club.

Pasty dinner

FRANKFORT — The fourth annual Benzie Home Health Care “Give and Get!” Pasty Dinner will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 955 James Street.

Give $10 and get a homemade pasty meal including pasty, coleslaw, beverage and an ice cream sundae. Individual pasties will be available for $5 each.

Wine on water

SUTTONS BAY — The Leelanau Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Wine on the Water Festival will take place from 1 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, at Marina Park in downtown Suttons Bay.

Tickets are $15 per person, which includes a commemorative wine glass and two tasting tickets. Additional tasting tickets may be purchased at the event for $2 each. Proceeds benefit the Leelanau Peninsula Chamber of Commerce.
