Fall cooking class

Alden — Gini Claudepierre will lead a fall cooking class from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the Alden District Library, 8751 Helena Road.

The class will focus on preparing root vegetables, soups and apple pie. Participants should bring a knife, a cutting board, mixing spoon and bowl.

Learn to home brew

Traverse City — TC Hopz, the Grand Traverse Area Home Brew Club, invites the public to its second annual "Learn to Homebrew Day" on Saturday, Oct. 20.

Club members will demonstrate how to brew beer and answer questions from noon to 6 p.m. at The Filling Station Microbrewery, 642 Railroad Place. There also will be educational displays on the processes and ingredients/materials needed to brew beer at home. Call 357-9735 for details.

Potluck learning

Benzonia — Grow Benzie is offering three cooking class/potlucks.

"Sneak it in Spaghetti Sauce" with Abby Beale is Oct. 23. "Fall Soups" is Oct. 25, followed by "Pie Making Featuring Pumpkin and Apple" Nov. 13. All sessions meet at 6 p.m. Bring a dish to pass and your own table service and beverage. Fee is $20 for each.
