It's Girl Scout cookie time

Area Girl Scouts kicked off the sale Jan. 23. It runs through Feb. 14. This year, the new cookie is Thank U Berry Munch, sweetened with cranberries and white fudge chips. Other selections are Thin Mints, Tagalongs, Trefoils, Do Si Do, Lemon Chalet Creme, Samoas and Dulce de Leche, introduced in 2009.

This year, Troop 10036 out of Trinity Lutheran Church will be selling their "Gift of Caring" cookies to send to Unit 1437 from Camp Grayling who have been called to active duty in Iraq. Through the Gift of Caring program, supporters purchase the cookies and donate them to send overseas to our troops. Troop 10036 has partnered with the Veterans of Foreign War Post #2780 to assist with the logistics for the shipping.

If you want to buy cookies but don't have a Girl Scout handy, call the Traverse City office at 947-7354 or go to www.girlscoutcookies.org to find a troop near you. Cookies sell for $3.50 per box.
