Traverse City — Cedar Creek Interiors, Chocolate Exotica and Deer Creek Junk, 415 S. Union St., will hold a Holiday Gift Extravaganza starting at 4 p.m. today, Dec. 13, and continuing through Saturday, Dec. 15.
The stores will be open until 8 p.m. today and Friday, Dec. 13-14.

Cookies and pasties
Manton — On Thursday, Dec. 13, the Manton Senior Center will hold their annual Christmas Cookie Sale and also will have beef pasties for sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Shoppers can mix and match cookies in a box that will be provided for $7. Pasties are $4 each; six for $22 or 23 for $42. Gravy is available on request. Pre-orders are appreciated.

Interlochen — Interlochen Arts Academy Dance Co. and Orchestra will present the classical ballet “Coppélia” Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 13-15, in Corson Auditorium.
Performances start at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Peshawbestown — The Eyaawing Museum & Cultural Center, 2304 N. West Bay Shore Dr., will host an interactive demonstration of the art of plaiting porcupine quills by Nodwesi Red Bear, museum curator/archivist.
The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 14-15, at the museum. There is no charge and quills and wooden looms will be provided. Donations are welcome.

Trains chug into TC
Traverse City — The 10th annual Festival of Trains chugs into the History Center of Traverse City, 322 Sixth St., Saturday, Dec. 15.
The show is open every day, except Christmas, through New Year’s Day. Festival hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon-4 p.m. Sunday. The festival will close at 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24 and 31.
A swap meet will be held opening weekend, Dec. 15-16, and Santa Claus will visit nightly from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, through Friday, Dec. 21. The Choo Choo Café will feature beverages, baked goods and homemade soups for most of the show and the “Conductor’s Gift Shop” will offer holiday and railroad-themed gifts.

A ‘Jazzy’ Christmas
Traverse City — A “Jazzy Christmas Concert” on Saturday, Dec. 15, will feature a cappella and instrumental music.
The Trillium Singers with guest soloist Madison Hertel and the Central Christmas Combo will perform at 7:30 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church, 222 Cass St.
A free-will offering will be collected for homeless outreach programs.
Vets for Peace meet
Traverse City — Northern Express columnist Stephen Tuttle will be the guest speaker at the Veterans for Peace Chapter 50 meeting Saturday, Dec. 15.
The group will meet at 10 a.m. at Horizon Books, 243 E. Front St. Tuttle will discuss his peace work and writing experience at 11 a.m. All veterans and people of peace are welcome.
Kids’ shopping day
Traverse City — The Women’s Resource Center Thrift Shop will host its annual Secret Santa Shopping Day for kids on Sunday, Dec. 16.
Each child visiting the WRC will receive $5 per parent in Santa Bucks to shop for presents from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Volunteers will be on hand to wrap their selections and Santa will meet and greet shoppers.

Traverse City — The St. Patrick Church Men’s Club will host a benefit breakfast on Sunday, Dec. 16, for the Northwest Michigan Food Coalition.
