Tech yard sale

LELAND — A technology yard sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at Leland Public School, 200 N. Grand Ave. Sale items include used computers, laptops and accessories.

Water safety class

LELAND — The Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project and Leland Township Parks and Rec will offer a free "Great Lakes Water Safety" class on Thursday, Aug. 1.

A classroom session will be held from 6:30 to 7 p.m. at the Old Art Building, 111 S. Main St., followed by a beach and water session at 8:15 p.m. at Vans Beach. For details or to register, visit www.glsrp.org/classes or call Dave Benjamin, (708) 903-0166.

Birds and bats

BELLAIRE — Grass River Natural Area, 6500 Alden Highway, will offer programs on birds and bats.

Citizen Science Friday on Aug. 2 will be "For the Birds." The 10 a.m. class is geared toward children ages 7 and older who enjoy exploring the outdoors. Participants will investigate natural area habitats and look for birds that live there. Observations will be recorded in Grass River's data base.

"Bats on the Hunt" on Saturday, Aug. 3, will feature bat stories, legends, facts and songs. Participants should meet at the natural area's barn at 7:30 p.m. All ages are welcome.

Boats on the river

TRAVERSE CITY — The Water Wonderland Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society will host its "Boats on the Boardwalk" Saturday, Aug. 3.

Approximately 50 antique and classic boats will be displayed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the water along the boardwalk on the Boardman River in downtown Traverse City.

Preschool playdate

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Cooperative Preschool invites area families to a playdate at its new Hilly Hollow playground.
